Southwest Chicago Christian Schools

The Southwest Chicago Christian Schools have a heritage of being a parent-run school that provides a Christ-centered education for students. For more than 100 years, their goal has remained the same - to provide an educational experience that is integrated with the Reformed understanding of the Christian faith. The mission of SCCS is to provide a high-quality education program in the Reformed tradition which emphasizes the lordship of Jesus Christ over all of life, preparing students spiritually, socially, academically, and physically to serve effectively and to glorify God by honoring Him in all aspects of life. Their focus on a Christ-centered learning community is intent on restoring God's world.Today, SCCS serves nearly 1,000 students over three campuses: Oak Lawn, (Preschool-8th Grade), Tinley Park (K-8th Grade) and Palos Heights (Chicago Christian High School 9-12th Grade).SCCS’s curriculum is biblically based on the teachings of the infallible Word of God as interpreted in the Standards of the Reformed faith and seeks to explore every avenue of learning so students may be able to discharge His responsibilities faithfully. The Preschool and Kindergarten programs have been established as a service to the families and children of the community. Children are welcomed as individuals created in the image of God. Focus is on the whole child: their social, emotional, physical, cognitive, creative and spiritual growth. Preschool and Kindergarten curriculum includes Bible, literacy development, math, science, social studies, physical education, music, art, Spanish and computer. The elementary school and middle school offers a setting in which the students can explore different interests through a variety of exposures and experiences with a focus on preparing students for future studies. The elementary school curriculum includes Bible, art, language arts, reading, writing, spelling, grammar, computer, instrumental instruction band (5th grade), math, music, physical education, science, social studies, Spanish, and Project Lead the Way STEM units in science. The middle school curriculum includes Bible, art, band, choir, computer applications, Spanish, language arts, math, social studies, physical education, and PLTW STEM units in science. In partnership with home and church, SCCS strives to develop the faith of their students by helping them understand who they are in Christ and where they fit in God’s story. They provide programs and curriculum that develop the mind of each child as well as a heart for God. Students participate in chapel, service learning projects, learn Christ-centered character traits, and most importantly learn how to be Christ-like servants through the modeling and teaching of staff.
